over the weekend, new york times did a write up about asam laksa and some of the restaurants in my neighbourhood. click here to read the news - From Asia, Rapture in Bowl . i'd been to minangasli when it first opened, they have good food but service is so and so and something about that place makes it look kindda blah. passed by that place few times when it is supposed to be busy time and looks empty most of the time. a bit pricey too. taste good is ok. not the best in the world but the serves the purpose if you rasa-rasa mengidam or in the mood for nasi lemak, mee jawa or laksa. never been to double crown. will try and make it there soon. probably some fancy malaysian restaurant. sripraphai is so and so. long lines to go in. been there once. probably need to go there again soon just to re-validate some of the claims made by my friend. brought some mat salleh friends to that place and they didn't like the food. yes, i did say mat salleh friends. they said the food is bland. hey..don't blame me.

Was the assam laksa expensive compared to M'sia?Normally it would be and wouldn't taste as nice...
in terms of price, its not that bad. i mean for new york standard, around us$6. of course if you convert it to malaysian ringgit, it will cost you arms and legs. taste as good as to the one in malaysia, spicy with its thick coconuty broth. except for double crown, these restaurants are located in an area which is predominant asians. so, they try to keep the taste as close as possible to those back home and not watered down like the onw made for americans or those who are not used to our spicy food. of course, nothing beats the taste from back homelah.

The mat salleh said asam laksa is bland? To us Malaysian asam laksa is a delicacy of the tulun doiho soboong dat. Our's is inonsom, hinava or sinamu in Rungus dialect. Well, never mind. So that the degree of their brag and gloat is lowered a bit. Usually they aggrandised themselves by saying that their food is of international standard. What else they can globalised except their bland food. Am I right? tobpinai.
MY HUBBY MAT SALLEH, HE LOVE ASAM LAKSA. BUT THE THING IS MY HUBBY LOVE ASIAN FOOD HE NOT REALY CRAZY ABOUT WHITE PEOPLE FOOD. ANYWAY, TO BAD FOR UR FRIEND.
randavi & sjb...actually, my friends love asian food. whenever i make fried rice, i have to make it extra "pedas" or else they will ask me "apasal tidak pedas you punya nasi goreng? habis sudah kau punya lada?":)
so, they expect sripraphai to have a typical thai food that is hot and spicy but it was not.
